The winch mounting and the structure to which it is attached should be checked to ensure it is of adequate strength for the task to be undertaken. All mounting and securing bolts should be checked for any signs of damage or corrosion. The air pressure delivery should be checked and air hoses should be checked for leaks. Air hose connections should also be checked for corrosion, wear and correct engagement. The winch rope should be checked over for any signs of damage, flattening, broken wires, wear and corrosion. All end fittings and attachments should be checked to ensure their condition is sound. The wire rope should also spool correctly onto the winch drum. The operating lever should be checked to ensure it is working correctly. All fluid levels should be examined and topped up where necessary. Band brakes should be checked for condition and operation if fitted. Particular attention should be paid to any wear in the brakes. Brake linkages should be checked for correct operation. The work area should be clean and organised to ensure there are no impediments or obstructions in the way of the load or personnel working on the operation. Do not stand underneath the load or hoist the load over people. Always stand clear of the winch rope during winching operations. When spooling out the slack rope ensure there is no danger of the rope being impeded when the rope is tensioned. Also ensure that slack rope is well clear of any personnel. Take up slack rope slowly to avoid dynamic shock loading of the winch and associated equipment. Stay well clear of the winch drum when the winch is operating. Always operate the controls from behind or beside the winch. Do not lean over the front of the winch to operate the controls. The wire rope should be spooled neatly onto the drum. If the wire rope needs to be deflected or extra line pull is required only an approved snatch block system should be used. NEVER Alter the spooling direction without consent from the manufacturer. Keep personnel clear of the hoisting rope. Check the brake efficiency before use. Lower off slowly to reduce dynamic or shock loading on the winch, winch rope, associated rigging and structure to which the winch is attached. Goto the news of Electric winches
